The Sony a6600 is a stylish yet feature-rich APS-C-format mirrorless camera that is ideal for still and video photography, with a focus on speed and adaptability. With its updated 24.2MP CMOS sensor, the a6600 can capture high-resolution images and UHD 4K video with no time limit. From ISO 100-32000, a redesigned APS-C-format 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor achieves smooth, nuanced image quality with low noise and high sensitivity; it can even be extended to ISO 102400 for low-light operation. In order to improve light-gathering capabilities, lower noise, and speed up readouts for video recording, the sensor’s innovative design makes use of thin copper wiring, improved circuit processing, and an upgraded front-end LSI. Along with allowing 16-bit recording with 14-bit raw file output for a wider tone and color scale, the sensor and BIONZ X CPU combo also offers a top continuous-shooting rate of 11 frames per second with AF and AE.

Recording UHD 4K Videos in XAVC S Format

Full pixel readout with 6K oversampling allows for UHD 4K video recording at up to 30p, producing more detail with less moiré and aliasing. Both resolutions use the 100 Mb/s XAVC S codec inside an MP4 wrapper with 4:2:0 sampling, while full HD 1080p recording is also available at frame rates up to 120 fps. Uncompressed HDMI output allows for crisp 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling in addition to high-resolution internal recording. An external recorder can also be used.

There is no recording cap for movies, therefore lengthier takes and continuous live event filming are possible. With the camera’s full configurable color and gamma options, users can change the knee, color level, black level, gamma, and more. For extra post-production versatility, use the same S-Log2 Gamma Curve that is available on high-end Sony Cinema cameras. This curve may squeeze up to 1300% more dynamic range into the video stream than the conventional Rec. 709. Along with the BT.2020 color space, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) support is also available for recording within a broad color gamut. In addition to S-Log2, S-Log3 is also available for creating an efficient 14-stop dynamic range with better grading control in the image’s shadow to mid-tone areas.

Shooters can record Full HD video at predetermined intervals between 1 and 120 frames per second by using the Slow & Quick (S&Q) mode. You can use these options to both speed up a slow-moving scene and slow down movement.
When using Imaging Edge software to create time-lapse videos, interval shooting mode is perfect. You can choose intervals ranging from 1 to 60 seconds to record up to 9999 consecutive free.

Rapid Hybrid AF Mechanism

For accurate focusing in as little as 0.02 seconds, a potent 4D FOCUS system that covers almost the whole sensor surface combines 425 on-chip phase-detection points with 425 contrast-detection areas. This hybrid AF system’s density of focusing points also makes it possible for Real-time Eye AF to focus on the eyes of identified subjects for portraiture (either humans or animals) and for both AF-S and AF-C modes, which may be used for stills or videos.

By placing a customizable frame above the intended moving topic, lock-on AF keeps the focus on moving subjects.
Even if the first chosen focus point loses focus, Expand Flexible Spot uses nearby focus points to keep attention on moving objects.

Image Stabilization with 5-Axis SteadyShot

A 5-stop, 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization system that adjusts for five different types of camera shake that occur during handheld still and video photography is built into the sleek chassis. This eliminates blur from camera shaking and enables users to use any lens—even modified lenses—confidently for important images.

The device will adapt for yaw and pitch changes for long focal lengths.
