The HOLYBRO Digital Air Speed Sensor, featuring the Measurement Specialties 4525DO digital sensor, delivers highly accurate and reliable airspeed data for fixed-wing UAV applications. Engineered for precision flight control, this sensor provides a measuring range of up to 1 psi, which corresponds to airspeeds of approximately 100 m/s, 360 km/h, or 223 mph—making it ideal for a broad range of aerial platforms, from slow-flying gliders to high-speed UAVs.
One of the key advantages of the 4525DO sensor is its high-resolution output. It uses a 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to deliver airspeed data with 14-bit resolution, equating to a pressure resolution of approximately 0.84 Pascals. This high level of sensitivity enables more stable and responsive autopilot performance, especially in applications where precise airspeed measurement is critical for stability and navigation.
In addition to pressure sensing, the sensor also measures temperature, which is a crucial input when correcting the indicated airspeed (IAS) to true airspeed (TAS). By using the MS5611 static pressure sensor already present on the Pix32 flight controller, the system can perform accurate airspeed compensation based on environmental conditions. The 4525DO’s design helps ensure its temperature readings are more accurate, as the sensor is physically isolated from heat-generating electronics, unlike earlier analog systems that suffered from thermal interference.
The sensor kit is fully compatible with all Pix32 and PX4 autopilot generation boards, allowing for seamless integration into existing systems. It features standard M3/6-32 mounting holes, ensuring a secure and straightforward installation process for drone builders and operators.
In summary, the Pix32 Airspeed Sensor Kit with the 4525DO sensor offers a compact, efficient, and highly accurate airspeed measurement solution—making it an essential component for any serious fixed-wing UAV operation.
