002 / WHAT IS A TETHERED DRONE

Cable-powered.
Hours-long.

A tethered drone is connected to a ground power station by a slim cable that delivers continuous electricity and a secure data link. The drone never lands for a battery swap — it stays where it's needed, for as long as it's needed.

The tether is the upgrade.

Every battery-powered drone you own is a 30–55 minute drone. Halfway through a 4-hour event, you're swapping batteries. Halfway through a 24-hour perimeter watch, you're rotating a fleet.

A tether changes the equation. The cable carries up to 1500 watts of ground power to the drone and an encrypted fibre data link back. The drone can hover at 60–100 m for hours or days — only stopping when you cut the power, not when chemistry says so.

What is a tethered drone?

A tethered drone is connected to a ground power station by a slim cable that supplies continuous electrical power and a secure data link. Unlike battery-powered free-flight drones limited to 30–40 minutes of flight, a tethered drone can stay airborne for hours or days as long as ground power is available — making it ideal for surveillance, event monitoring, communications relay and persistent ISR.

Which drones are compatible with CZI tether systems?

The CZI TK3-M350 is purpose-built for the DJI Matrice 300 RTK and Matrice 350 RTK enterprise platforms. The CZI TK300 is a more general-purpose tether power supply that can be configured for several commercial drone airframes. We confirm exact compatibility for your existing fleet before quoting.

What is the difference between Elistair LIGH-T 4 and SAFE-T 2?

The Elistair LIGH-T 4 is the lightweight, portable variant — designed for rapid tactical deployment, small team operations and quick-response ISR. The SAFE-T 2 is the heavy-duty industrial variant — designed for fixed-site installation, continuous 24-hour operation, perimeter security and large-event monitoring. Choose LIGH-T 4 for mobility, SAFE-T 2 for endurance and capacity.

What is the V-SCOUT system?

V-SCOUT is a vehicle-mounted actively tethered drone system. It deploys from a moving or parked vehicle, providing a continuous aerial overwatch for the platform — used by police convoys, defence patrols, security teams and rapid-response units. The active tether actively manages cable tension during vehicle movement.

How long can a tethered drone stay airborne?

As long as ground power is supplied. Battery-driven free-flight drones are limited to 30–55 minutes per flight. Tethered systems run for hours or days continuously — limited only by ground generator fuel, mains supply availability or scheduled maintenance windows. Industrial systems like Elistair SAFE-T 2 routinely run 24-hour shifts.

Can the tether be cut accidentally?

Modern tether cables use Kevlar or aramid-reinforced sheaths that resist cuts, abrasion and weather. All systems we sell include a tether-loss safety protocol — if the cable is severed, the drone reverts to onboard battery power and lands safely at a pre-programmed location. The tether also doubles as an encrypted data link, eliminating wireless interference and jamming risk.

Are tethered drones DGCA-regulated in India?

Yes — tethered drones fall under the same DGCA framework as other UAS, but operating tethered drones below 60 metres in approved zones is generally simpler than free-flight operations because the geo-fenced flight envelope is physical rather than virtual. xBoom assists with DGCA registration documentation and operator training.

What is the X3 P3 Pliabot used for?
