It uses active IR stereo depth sensing to scan an 87°×58° field of view at up to 1280×720 resolution and 90 frames per second, while a built-in 6-axis IMU (the “i” in its name) helps compensate depth data for the robot’s own motion — a meaningful upgrade over a plain depth camera without inertial sensing.
Technically, the camera can resolve depth from as close as 0.105m, though — like any active IR stereo sensor — reliable, stable readings typically start closer to 0.3m, extending out to roughly 10m depending on lighting and scene conditions. It’s rated for indoor and outdoor use, though direct bright sunlight can reduce accuracy somewhat, a known characteristic of active-IR depth sensing generally rather than a flaw specific to this unit.
