Mapping and Navigation, Built In

Unitree 2D LiDAR Single Sensor: Genuine Slamtec Mapping Hardware

This is a genuine Slamtec 2D LiDAR sensor — visibly branded “RPLIDAR” on the housing — professionally installed by Unitree with a protective mounting bracket onto the Go1 EDU, AlienGo, or B1 platform. Unlike a simple raw laser scanner, this unit handles map building, real-time localization, and navigation planning onboard, using its own SLAM engine and a built-in 9-DOF inertial navigation system, and can scan out to 40m at a 10Hz refresh rate with 0.36° angular resolution.

That onboard processing is what lets it directly support dynamic obstacle avoidance and detailed indoor mapping without necessarily needing a separate compute stack just to make sense of the raw scan data. It’s worth noting this sensor is built for Unitree’s earlier-generation quadrupeds — the Go1 EDU, AlienGo, and B1 — rather than the current Go2 platform, so it suits teams already running one of these three robots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which robots does the Unitree 2D LiDAR Single Sensor work with?
The Go1 EDU, AlienGo, and B1 — Unitree’s earlier-generation quadruped platforms. It is not designed for the current Go2 platform.
Is this a genuine Slamtec sensor?
Yes. The sensor is visibly branded “RPLIDAR” on its housing, and its onboard mapping and localization capabilities match Slamtec’s Mapper-series 2D LiDAR sensors.
What does “professional installation included” mean?
Unitree installs the sensor onto your robot themselves, fitting it with a dedicated protective mounting bracket for secure, reliable operation.
What can this sensor actually do?
It builds and maintains real-time 2D maps of indoor spaces, improves the robot’s self-localization accuracy, supports navigation and path planning, and detects both moving and stationary obstacles.
What’s the sensor’s range and scan rate?
It measures from 0.1m out to 40m, scanning at a 10Hz rate with 0.36° angular resolution.
Does it need an external computer to build maps?
No — mapping, localization, and navigation planning are processed onboard the sensor itself, using its own SLAM engine and built-in 9-DOF IMU.
