The Durabook U11I-EX is the ATEX-certified variant of the U11I, designed specifically for deployment in Zone 2 and Zone 22 hazardous locations where flammable gases, vapours, mists, or combustible dusts may be present. Built on the same Intel® 12th Generation Core™ platform with Coolfinity™ fanless design, MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G, and IP66 certifications, the U11I-EX is the most fully featured ATEX-certified rugged tablet available. It delivers the complete computing power of the U11I platform with the additional safety certification required by oil & gas, chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and mining operations worldwide.

The U11I-EX carries ATEX Zone 2/22 certification — the European standard for equipment used in environments where explosive atmospheres may occur. Zone 2 covers areas where flammable gases or vapours may be present in abnormal conditions; Zone 22 covers combustible dust environments. This certification makes the U11I-EX the only full-featured 11-inch computing platform approved for deployment across oil & gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, and mining hazardous zones.
Built on the U11I's proven platform, it retains all MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G, IP66, and 6-foot drop certifications — ensuring the ATEX upgrade introduces no compromise on general field ruggedness.
Coolfinity™ Fanless — Zero Ignition Risk from Moving Parts
The Coolfinity™ fanless thermal design is critical in ATEX environments: a traditional fan motor creates spark ignition risk. The U11I-EX's fully sealed fanless architecture eliminates all rotating components, making it inherently safer for explosive atmosphere deployment while delivering Intel® 12th Generation Core™ i5/i7 performance across operating temperatures from −20°C to 60°C.
This same fanless design provides complete dust exclusion — critical in Zone 22 combustible dust environments where fan-driven airflow could cause dust suspension near ignition sources.
Full Enterprise Computing Capabilities in Hazardous Areas
Beyond ATEX certification, the U11I-EX provides a complete enterprise computing platform: Intel® Wi-Fi 6E, optional 5G/4G LTE, Thunderbolt 4, RJ45, Nano SIM, and a 41-pin Pogo docking connector. The optional DynaVue® 1000 nits display with multi-touch and optional digitiser ensures full usability in the challenging lighting conditions typical of industrial plant environments.
Quick-release NVMe SSD (up to 2 TB, optional OPAL 2.0 encryption), Intel® vPro™, Secured-Core PC, TPM 2.0, smart card reader, fingerprint scanner, and LF/HF-RFID/NFC reader provide complete data security for classified industrial operations.
