A know-it-all about the Infamous DJI RoboMaster S1

DJI is a well-known name, recognized for developing prominent drones and recently a line of phenomenal cameras. Never a company to be too comfortable, DJI is launching their innovation chain progressing again, with the DJI RoboMaster S1.

The DJI RoboMaster S1 came out of the Robomaster robot competitions that are held in China annually. Due to its fame, DJI has designed a consumer model that heavies up on STEM-friendly play. It is more than a robot as it is a learning machine and a magnificent way to bond with your kids. Possibly if you have no children in your life, that is not a problem, as you are now rightfully the father of a robot. The RoboMaster S1 delivers it convenient for children and adults to make an active functioning robot with lots of fun traits. You build, program it, and battle it, a bit like a genuine child!

This robot symbolizes the spirit of the yearly summer competition, incorporated in a product for consumers. S1 stands for “Step 1” and indicates quite strongly that this is only the inception of DJI’s venture towards user robots. The moving robot highlights high-performance motors, four Mecanum wheels along with 12 rollers each for omnidirectional movements, a mechanical gimbal, infrared and bead blasters, and a speaker. In addition, a miniature camera is positioned on it that can shoot HD video at up to 1080p.

Once assembled, it is programmed either utilizing the simple to manage Scratch 3.0, which is a much more essential and visual system, or – for the more high-level user – Python.

The wheels along with looking neat are also enthralling in action. Passersby will do a double-take once they see the rollers on the wheels spinning forward while the RoboMaster S1 slides side to side or during a circle. Controlling that phenomenon is even more addictive.

With wheels like this, this STEM toy possesses unrivaled accuracy and a surprising pace. Even at its medium speed setting, it swiftly runs laps around the carpeted floor.

The custom M3508I motor emphasizes a combined FOC ESC and outputs energy of up to 250 mN-n. Linear Hall-effect sensors further give you precise authority over a front suspension with a four-wheel drive. All four Mecanum wheels have 12 rollers, enabling the RoboMaster S1 to perform the omnidirectional movement.

Spinning 1,000-rpm per minute the wheels allow fantastic control, swaying in all four directions smoothly. That means no stuttering or tripping over while quick turns and transitioning from carpet to tile without floundering.

With overvoltage, temperature, and short-circuit stability, the wheels are designed for the prolonged haul. It is not silent when running, but the sound it makes, like playing cards hobbling in a machine, is refreshing compared to the buzzing unchanged sounds of many remote control cars.

Battery Life

The battery takes 90 minutes to charge completely and has temperature, overcharge, overcurrent, over-discharge, and short circuit security along with hibernation mode. DJI assesses the battery will sustain for 35 minutes if you are driving the robot non-stop. It is not too slow to recharge. It has a 2,800mAh range to be loaded by the 29W charger.

The RoboMaster App is at the core of experiencing what the S1 has to contribute. It gives you the power of the robot and the ability to program new capabilities into it. It supports iOS, Android, and Windows devices. The multi-platform characteristics of the app allow different platforms to play together and share custom programs.

DJI’s RoboMaster S1 is an exceptional robot that a kid is sure to cherish. But let us be practical as this is an extravagant toy. However, for a STEM robot, the RoboMaster S1 is as great as it gets. Its Scratch block coding tutorials are on the level with that of other robots, plus you get unparalleled alternatives tailored with PWM ports for add-on programmable hardware. You assemble it yourself and driving it is a thrill. Although we hoped it had more single-player games. But kids and adults new to coding will be ready to master Scratch, not Python. And without a gaming angle, we worry children will lose passion, also in block coding.

DJI recommends children below 14 only use the RoboMaster S1 with adult supervision. We would add that they will also require your guidance to increase the fun and use it to its abundant potential. For older robot fans that have been waiting for a sophisticated, prime STEM toy, this is it.
